  • Starts Friday

You were never meant to just read about herbs

You were meant to know them. Work with them. Trust yourself with them.

Join a year-long journey into the herbal traditions of Wales

Learn to make your own medicine, reduce your medicine miles, and deepen your connection to the land, language and lore of Cymru (Wales).

Maybe this is you:

  • You feel drawn to herbs but don’t fully trust yourself yet

  • You’ve read books or taken courses but something hasn’t quite clicked

  • You want to make your own medicine but don’t know where to begin

Herbalism isn’t something you can just learn...

It’s something you live!

What This Course Really Offers

Herbal wisdom was once passed from generation to generation, woven into everyday life. Across much of Europe, that lineage was disrupted during the witch trials, when knowledge was suppressed and pushed underground.

In Wales, however, something of that thread remained. Carried quietly through families, land-based practices, and a culture that still holds story, place and plant together.

This course is an opportunity to reconnect with that living tradition.

Many herbal trainings today are not rooted in a specific place or culture. They often draw from multiple traditions without being grounded in the land they are taught on.

This is different...

This course is rooted here in Wales.

In the plants that grow here... And in the stories, language and traditions of this land.

"My work is about bringing people back into relationship with plants...

In a way that is practical, grounded and culturally rooted.

I believe we are all born with this connection, but for many of us it has become quieter under modern ways of living.

This year is about uncovering that again."

Most people can remember a time when they were naturally drawn to the natural world

Filling jars with petals, making potions.
Being curious about what grows around them.

That instinct does not disappear...

It simply becomes quieter

This course gives that connection space to return

Opportunities to learn in this way, connected to land, culture and lived practice, are becoming rare.

This is one of the few spaces where that thread is still being held and shared.

This course is for you if you feel called to work with plants, but don’t know where to begin… or you already feel that connection and want to deepen it in a practical, grounded way.

Over the Course of the Year, You Will Learn to:

Work with plants in a way that is both traditional and practical.

  • Make your own herbal medicines, including tinctures, oils and tablets

  • Prepare nourishing teas, infusions and decoctions for everyday use

  • Harvest, dry and store herbs so they retain their vitality

  • Forage and grow herbs safely and sustainably

  • Use supportive practices to deepen how herbs work within the body

Alongside this, you will be introduced to naturopathic principles and nutrition, learning how to meet the herbs halfway so they can work more deeply within your internal soil.

This is not just about learning techniques.

It is about becoming someone who knows how to work with plants.

Meet the Plants. Make Your Own Medicine.

Learn the Plants Through the Seasons

Each month, you will learn to recognise and understand the plants as they grow around you, following the natural rhythm of the seasons.

Meet Your Teacher

Hi, I’m Salena Walker.

I teach people how to confidently work with plants in a way that is both practical and deeply rooted in tradition.

I am a herbalist, naturopath and teacher with over forty years of experience working with medicinal plants, and more than twenty years teaching others how to recognise and use them safely.

I was raised in the South Wales valleys, where the landscape, language and traditions of Wales shaped how I understand plants and healing.

I grew up watching my parents, grandparents and great grandparents grow food and medicine in small back gardens, using what they had around them.

My deeper study of herbal medicine began after being diagnosed with Pernicious Anaemia.

That experience led me to study naturopathy and herbalism in depth and eventually to become a practitioner and teacher.

Today my work focuses on Wild Welsh Herbalism®.

I explore the relationship between plants, place, folklore and healing traditions in Wales, and help others rediscover this knowledge in a way that can be used in everyday life.

This course is a distillation of that work.

I do not teach this as theory. I teach it as a living practice.

This course opens once a year

Am I a qualified herbalist after this course?

In the UK, herbalism is not a government regulated profession, so there is no single legal qualification required to practise. However, becoming a clinical herbalist usually involves longer, more in-depth training with supervised clinical experience, so that you can obtain insurance and join a professional body.

This course is designed as a foundation year. It will give you the knowledge, skills and confidence to work with herbs for yourself, your family and your community, and it can also support you if you choose to go on to further study.

What’s the refund policy?

Before the course begins, cancellations due to exceptional circumstances will receive credit to use within 24 months. Once the course has started, no refunds are given.

Are payment plans available?

Yes, there is a monthly payment option of £118 over thirteen months. Your place is secured on sign up, and payments begin at enrolment.

Do I need to be Welsh?

No. The herbal knowledge shared in this course is rooted in the history, traditions and folklore of Wales, but you do not need to be Welsh to take part.

You are welcome wherever you are in the world. The course will guide you to work with the plants that grow around you, while learning through a Welsh lens.

If you feel drawn to herbs, plants and their stories, you will feel right at home.

If you’ve been thinking about learning herbal medicine for a while...
