Take Your Herbal Knowledge Further
Year Two builds on everything you learned in Wild Welsh Herbalism Year One and starts to bring it all together.
We'll look at how herbs work together, work through case studies and go deeper into Welsh herbalism, culture and tradition. Most importantly, you'll learn how to use my Welsh constitutional system to understand people and plants, helping you decide which herbs may be the best match for yourself, your family, friends and people in your community.
Year Two is for students who have completed Wild Welsh Herbalism Year One, or those with equivalent foundation level herbal training that has been discussed and agreed with me before enrolling.
By the end of Year One, you know the actions of many different plants, how to prepare them and some of the ways they can be used.
Then someone has a problem and several herbs could potentially help. Which one do you choose?
Learning more herbs and longer lists of actions doesn't necessarily make that decision any easier.
In Year Two, we'll look at this differently. You'll learn to recognise patterns in people and plants, so instead of only asking, “What herb is used for this condition?”, you'll start asking, “What does this person need?”
At the heart of Year Two is the constitutional system I have developed within Wild Welsh Herbalism®: Tir, Môr and Awyr.
I developed it to make something that can feel complicated much easier to understand. You'll learn to recognise the characteristics of Tir, Môr and Awyr in people and recognise those qualities in plants too.
This gives you a way to start with the person rather than simply looking for herbs listed for a condition. What patterns can you see? What do they need? Which plants are the best match?
The system doesn't replace what you learned about herbal actions in Year One. It gives you a way to use that knowledge.
Across twelve in person teaching days, we'll build on what you learned in Year One and start bringing the different parts of herbal practice together.
We'll move beyond choosing herbs one at a time and look at how to create combinations with a clear purpose. Through herbal synergies and case studies, you'll learn why we might combine particular plants and how to shape a formula around the individual person.
We'll continue exploring Welsh plants, language and folklore, while going deeper into the stories and cultural material that are part of Wild Welsh Herbalism®.
We'll also explore Welsh seasonal traditions and the folk calendar, looking at how the changing year was marked in Wales and what these traditions can add to our understanding of plants, people and place.
You'll take your medicine making further, creating herbal preparations and combinations for different constitutions.
There will also be time to experiment with some of the medicines yourself. This means you can experience how different plants and preparations feel rather than only learning about their constitutional qualities in theory. I think this first hand experience is an important part of really getting to know the medicine.
If you've completed Wild Welsh Herbalism Year One and you're ready to start applying what you've learned in more depth, Year Two is the next step.
You don't need to remember everything from Year One before you arrive. We'll build on those foundations, make connections between what you've already learned and develop your understanding through another year of practical learning.
Year Two isn't suitable for complete beginners because we'll be working from the knowledge and practical skills covered in the foundation year.
If you've completed foundation level herbal training elsewhere, you may also be able to join us. Please contact me before enrolling so we can have a chat about your previous training and make sure the course is suitable for you.
If you'd eventually like to continue to the Wild Welsh Herbalism Practitioner Diploma, you will need to complete both Year One and Year Two first.
Throughout Year Two, we'll follow the story of Ceridwen, exploring different parts of the story as the course unfolds.
We'll look at the constitutional balance of the characters and what we can learn from them, alongside what the story can teach us about plants, transformation, knowledge and Welsh herbal tradition.

Year Two came about because my Year One students kept nagging me to create it! After spending a year learning together, they weren't ready to finish. They wanted to keep going and take what they'd learned further.
As you learn more herbs, herbalism can start to feel more complicated. Several plants can seem suitable for the same problem, and you can still wonder which one to choose. This is one of the reasons I developed the Welsh constitutional system I teach in Year Two.
I wanted a way of bringing together what we know about people and plants that made herbalism easier to understand and use. Year Two is where we start joining those pieces together, so you're not simply learning more herbs. You're learning how to match people with plants.
Those first students kept asking me, “What's next?” Year Two was my answer, and it means we get to spend another year learning together.
The Year Two course fee includes twelve in person teaching days at Ysbryd y Coed, access to the online version of the course, lunch on every teaching day and all the herbs and materials we use for medicine making.
